if you happened to miss any of the games this weekend, let me summarize what happened: your bracket is now screwed!! marquette pulled off a major upset by beating kentucky. i say major only becuase, not only did they beat but they pummelled them. it wasn't even close. kentucky didn't even look like kentucky. as a hard-core kentucky friend of mine put it: "kentucky lost their spark 2 games ago." and quite frankly i gotta agree with him on that note. so since my bracket was now a total mess, i rooted for kansas to overtake az in the other semi-final on saturday. i figured since i was pretty much out of the running, i might as well root for a team that i know want to see play in the championship game. so on that note, go roy!! and go jayhawks!! i'll do what i can to help you all out. then, in today's action, the fabulous freshman of syracuse were able to knock out the senior laden club of oklahoma. and as it would turn, this is actually helping be move back up in our pool. as messed up as my bracket is, i might actually still place, albeit 3rd place. but some money is better than no money at all. currently, michigan state is hanging around with texas. i think a texas/'cuse final four match up would be great. the msu win over maryland on friday night also helped me out quite a bit as well as a few people in the pool had maryland. way to go spartans.

you'll find the left hand column a picture of a ticket for the man u./fc barcelona game in philly in august. i marked out some information if by some hacker wanted to make a replica and try and steal our seats.

this coming weekend is mule day in columbia. let's just say that it is a redneck-type parade with a lot of drunk people. so, i will be taking my camera and will hopefully get many good pictures. speaking of pictures, hopefully i'll be able to put up some sort of picture gallery with all of these pics i have.

well, things haven't gone so well since the sweet 16 started. it's more like the bitter-sweet 16. ka and duke played a great game and az and ky rolled, but pitt just didn't come through for me. oh well. i faired much better tonight as texas, ok, and syracuse all won and to top it all off michigan state won (who knocked off fl). so, even though i couldn't win that game (i had fl winning), it was a win in my book b/c a lot of people ahead of me had maryland. way to go spartans. hopefully the weather will cooperate (crossing our fingers) and i'll be able to make it out to the golf course tomorrow. i've only got a few months till alan gets here and then the season really begins as matt, alan, and i will be hitting the course(s) quite regularly. so, matt and i need to polish up our game as much as possible. in other news, usa plays venezuela tomorrow in seattle at 4 est. should be a good game, although originally scheduled was usa/japan, which would have been really good. no adult league this weekend, either, so that'll be nice. go wildcats (both of them)!!

oh, almost forgot, the tickets are in!!! man u./barcelona, proof of purchase will be posted soon.

we resume play tomorrow with the sweet 16. butler appears to be attempting to pull off a college-based hoosiers story. right now, i'd give them the edge. they are scary good from long distance. plus, you gotta give any team props that can out-shoot a pitino team from downtown. we've got 4 games tomorrow night: ky(1) vs. wisconsin(5), pitt(2) vs. marquette(3), az(1) vs. nd(5), and ka(2) vs. duke(3). man, what a lineup. i cannot wait for the duke-ka game, that is gonna be great. i need ky, pitt, az, and duke so i can continue my march up my bracket. for friday, i need ok, syracuse, tx, and well it doesn't matter b/c i had florida winning, so i am rooting for maryland and gary williams now. moving from the sweet 16 to the elite 8 should make for an excellent weekend of basketball. while we are still on the subject, any idea when lebron james will declare for the nba draft and when he will sign a 20-some odd million dollar deal with nike. you know he's going nike, hello!!! mj, tiger... nike is loaded. so just sit back and watch the madness unfold this weekend, it's gonna be great!!!

okay, i know it has a been a few days but i was able to perform a successful format and reinstall of windows xp. i say successful in that i was able to retain all of my email, contacts, documents and other pertinent information. basically, all of the stuff that you hate to loose when your machine crashes.

so far this has been a great tournament (dance). after the first round, i was pretty pissed because i was around 18th place out of 29 people in the little contest i am running at the office. fortunately though, i picked a good second round and have climbed all the way up to the 5th spot. if things hold true to form (which they prolly won't), i should end up pretty decent. so, let's recap some events over the past few days. maryland over unc-will., wow!! that was awesome. i mean a falling, one-footed, leaning 3 pointer at the buzzer (literally) to win it. that was great. then wisconsin being pushed all the way by tulsa and needing another buzzer beater (1 second remaining) in the second round. and let's not forget arizona/gonzaga. that was by far one of the best games within the past few years. absolutely excellent. i believe that i was able to help az win. how you ask, with karma. the sports guy knows about this. he'll sit in the same position for hours on end if his team is on a roll. i have been knee deep in this stuff since the tourney started. for instance, saturday night dad, mom, and i were watching the game while eating dinner. while we were cleaning up the game goes into overtime. well, my dad wanted to move to the den to finish it up, but since i had az in the final 4, i couldn't leave the kitchen and neither could he. so, i made him and my mom stay in the kitchen and watch the rest of the game on the smallest tv in the house - 13". if we had gone to another room or left the house, i know az would have lost. this need to help my teams advance continued on sunday as i didn't move from our playroom couch, which btw, passed its last leg about 2 years ago. things worked out great. syracuse overcame a 13 pt. deficit, and pitt out-lasted iu. i also have some other ideas why my teams lost. auburn, for instance, won only because dicky v. said they weren't' tourney worthy. if dick vital or anyone says that team isn't tourney worthy, you might as well put them in the sweet 16. it happens every year and no one pays any attention to it. and if you all are wondering why lousiville lost, you can thank my dad. he prematurely circled them on his bracket (signifying a tournament win). thanks dad! as for the illini, we'll just say they got bit by the "luck of the irish".

and for those of you who have in a hole for the past week, we are at war with iraq. please keep all of our service men and women in your prayers. we are thinking of all of you, God speed!

looks like we are heading to war... should be interesting. i am formatting my machine tonight, so it could be a few days before i am back up and fully functional. remember, the madness begins on thursday!!

the madness has begun! bc, seton hall, ut, texas tech all got snubbed or at least espn thinks so. i think bc and ut did for sure. but oh well. they will just be a couple of powerhouses in the nit. the next few weeks, i'll prolly posting nothing but college basketball related stuff in honor of march madness. so, let's start this off right with who is this years cinderella? butler, southern illinios, tulsa? all viable contenders. we will just have to see though. i am especially surprised that alabama got in. i know they played rather well (ranked #1 at one point) early on, but man did they ever falter during sec play. my predictions for the championship: sec/big12. although it'll be hard to keep an acc team out. upset of the tourney will be tulsa over dayton (13 over a 4 seed). i see it happening.

we did have a soccer game today and i should at least note that we did win (4-2). at the beginning of the game we only had 11 players and then a few minutes in a few more showed up. we led throughout and should have actually won 4-0, but oh well. with the numbers we had, a victory was plenty enough. with uah spring break and then a tournament the week after that, we are off for 3 weeks. our next game isn't until April 6 against max carpet care. so, that'll give me some time to get some more running in and try and get into shape as i might be playing more outside mid than forward this season.

section 242, row 26, seats 5-9 is where we are. after finally getting through on the web, the ticketmaster phone number was busy for an hour straight. the best i got was two rings and then the busy message. i am actually not too worried, since it is a new stadium and now-a-days all of the stadiums have excellent seating regardless of where you are sitting. i just hope it holds true for the lincoln financial center.

march madness has lived up to its billing so far. nearly every nationally ranked team has had trouble. for instance, maryland got knocked off again by those wonderful heels!! unfortunately, now the heels gotta face duke in the semifinals this afternoon. should be a good though, since they split the two regular season games. brackets come out sunday evening... whose your favorite?

volleyball went really well as we played the best that we have played all season long. which is great since the tournament starts next tuesday. hopefully we'll be able to carry some momentum. but the big headline of the nite -- the uconn women lose. yes, they lost. i am kinda in shock too. i would understand if it was the ncaa finals against pat summit's lady vols, but this was the big east finals against villanova. this was supposed to be a push-over. they hadn't lost since march 30, 2001 and had gone 70 straight without a defeat. amazing, yes! will it ever be topped? probably not, however if it is topped, i see the lady vols doing the deeds. it would only be fitting. let the madness begin, we are 1 week away from the first game on the men's tourney. yeah, remember they have the play-in game for the 64th and 65th seeds. the next 3 weeks are gonna be great!

hasl began today and we had a game against atlas. it was our first game together all season. let's just say we don't practice at all. although, practice times are generally tuesday and thursday with the b team for those that show up. we tied this team in november at the state cup 2-2. we played horrible that game and fully intended to avenge ourselves. after we spotted them a 1-0 lead, we started putting passes together and it was 3-1 at halftime. second half was much like the end of the first half and the final tally was 6-1. a good showing for our first game. always need an easy game to start off with to shake off the rust from winter. next game is this sunday at 1.00p vs. nasa crew. shouldn't be too tough either. our first real test will be against the law dogs in 3 weeks. that should be a great game.

the first wave of the spring break crew has already come and gone (john, kelly and maria). they left on saturday. the next wave is justin and meece. they should arrive on tuesday and will prolly leave on wednesday or thursday. then after that robyn will be in on thursday evening and she'll stay till saturday. so, it should be a fun week with all of them visiting and volleyball on tuesday and the usual workouts during the evenings.

current group going to manchester united/fc barcelona game is now at 5: b, justin, zeke, smc (he's gotten approval), and myself. remember ticket orders are saturday at 10am est so i need to know soon for those of you i've asked!!

okay, did anyone catch some news headlines today. it appears that saddam is now outfitting his fedayeen (or human sacrifces) with united states and british look-a-like uniforms. i kid you not. i saw the story on msnbc and i couldn't believe it. he's possibly planning to use his troops to act as us troops and go through iraq killing innocent iraqis as the tv [news] cameras roll, thus making it appear as though us/british troops are storming through the streets of cities with no regard whatsoever for civilian life. i tell ya, someone really just needs to pull the sniper rifle out and end his little show. this is getting out of hand and i have a bad feeling it'll get worse before it gets any better. so, we will have to wait and see what develops at the un hearings.

oh so close, yet so far away from a big dance ticket was tennessee tech. austin peay was able to hold them off in the ovc championship game earlier today. which means apu will be representing the ovc in the big dance. along with that game there are nearly a hundred games going on today. it is insane. all of mid-majors and small conferences are having their championships this weekend and all of the major conferences (the big 6: acc, sec, pac-10, big-10, big 12, and big east) will have their conference championships this next week.

i was able to catch some of the uk/fl (ranked 2/3 respectively) game while working out and the last 5 minutes or so once we got home and it lived up to the billing. great game and uk was able to run the table in sec play. i am not sure when the last time it was done, but i am pretty sure it has been quite some time. tubby has his kids playing great at the right time; right as march madness begins. next saturday we will find out where we will be sitting for the manchester united/fc barcelona game in philadelphia at the beginning of august. tickets go on sale at 10am est. which means, i'll probably have to set an alarm to make sure i get up on time to call. currently we have b, justin, zeke, and myself going and possibly smc if the misses will let him go with us. if you are interested in going, let me know and i can get you details. you can also check championsworld.com for more information.

anyone catch bush's speech tonight. of course you did you happened to have the tv on during 7.00 and 8.00p cst. unless you were watching an espn network or some non-network station, then you probably missed it. i'll recap for you. we, "america", are mad at saddam. unless he disarms or complies with un sanctions, we are gonna whoop some tail and if it comes down to it, we don't really care what everyone else thinks b/c we know they'll back us eventually. yes, i know that is not exactly what he said, but it is pretty close. my advice to saddam, compile or you are going down and you are going down hard.

okay, enough polictics. eliyahu.org is finally back up and running. he's an old friend of mine from high school who got me hooked on this whole weblog thing while we were both in college. he had his present site and it became a weekly occurrence to check it often. hence, the reasoning and spawning of mine and sMc's sites. any who, march madness is in full swing. last night on sportscenter i think there were nearly 4 games that came down to the wire, with half of those being battled between ranked teams. again, the tourney is going to be great. and to update you on ttu men and women basketball, they are in the semi's of the ovc. both play on friday and hopefully they'll both advance to the finals. go tech go!!!!

ah... i just walked in from volleyball and was able to catch the last minute of the florida/georgia game. that was a great ending. the sec really has been the best conference this year, which i don't usually say since i am a big unc fan as well. speaking of b'ball, ttu won its first round game tonight against ut-martin. wahoo! i think the semi's and finals are this wknd at vanderbilt (at least that is the usual schedule). hopefully, the golden eagles can pull it out and make it to the big dance, that would be oh so sweet.

volleyball went rather well tonight (4-2), it could have been better, but oh well. we won the first two games against each team and then for the third game it looked like we sent in a bunch of rookies from another sport. it was horrible. i don't know what gets into us. the tournament is in a few weeks and hopefully we will be able to hold our position (currently 4) at either the 3 or 4 seed. john, kelly, and maria are coming in this wknd. glad that we are their first stop of their spring break. hopefully, the weather will cooperate.

ah... the eyeds of march and march madness are upon us. finally! march madness is simply great. this years tourney should be no different. with the parity that exists across the nation this year, it should be a really exciting tournament. i am almost positive that az will make it, but as for who they will play, i cannot tell you. we will just have to wait and see. also, adult league spring season for hasl starts this coming sunday. we've got a really strong team and i think we'll do really well this season. oh yeah, almost forgot. all 3 of my games that i was supposed to ref this weekend were cancelled. the one of friday was cancelled but they did not notify us, so we still got paid for it. saturday's games were cancelled friday night. so, we will have to see if i get any games this week. i saw old school on saturday night. gotta say it is a must see. it was pretty dang funny. anyways, ash wednesday starts this wednesday, what are you giving up for lent?
